Happy New Years Everyone!

This year has been so great for us. It has brought a lot of happiness and some new lessons. I have grown so much in this year and more than I have in the previous year. It’s amazing to look back at how my life was before, and to compare it to where it is now. I’m so thankful for everything that I have. Every day of my life, I look at my beautiful little family that I’ve made and I feel the greatest happiness in my heart. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about how lucky I am to be with them.

The hardships this year has brought me to a new place in my life. With hardships, you will also experience new lessons. I learned that I can grown on my own. It’s okay to move away from those who are not good for you and to walk on your own instead. I wish I had done this sooner. I honestly don’t know why I was so hesitant to do this before, but it’s better late than never.

A new journey that I embarked on this year was growing my writing on medium. If you want to read my new article on medium, you can click here. I’m so surprised and extremely grateful that I have been able to grow so much on medium in such a short amount of time. Blogging has been my passion for so long. Medium feels like an extension to my writing. And I’m more happy than ever to be able to write on both platforms now.

I’ve written a lot about my journey on medium so far on here. And I’m definitely going to continue writing about my medium journey. For us bloggers, there are a lot more opportunities for us. I want to be able to share my experiences with others if they are also looking to expand their writing too. Therefore, you can read more about my thoughts on medium on this blog or you can click here to access all of my medium articles.

If you are not familiar with medium, it is a writing platform that allows writers of all levels to publish articles and to be able to make money from their writing. It doesn’t cost anything to join the program. I have found the program to be very rewarding. The money that I have earned from medium is 4-5 times as much as how much I make from word ads on WordPress.

If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about medium.

I don’t want to keep you too long on this blog post. It’s currently two hours away from the new year and I’m going to go spend it with my family. Happy new year and I hope that you have all the blessings this upcoming year!

I’ll see you in the new year!

If you want to follow me, I will follow back. Make sure to let me know that you came to my medium page from my blog! Click here to read more of my articles on medium.

Morning Coffee Time for Teachers ☕️ | Talking About Burnout for Teachers

Good morning my fellow teachers! The morning is always the best time to begin preparing for your day. I have been lucky to create my own a schedule because I am a piano teacher. I know that other teachers have to wake up earlier than I do to get to their classrooms. Whichever kind of teacher you are, I hope that your morning goes well and that you are extra productive today! Most of all, I hope that your day runs smoothly. These two wishes are what I wish for my days every day. Not every day is good, but each morning is the start of a new day.

Today, I want to talk about burnout for teachers. Teachers have burnouts all the time. Our students don’t know this about us, but we are human. There are good days and there are bad days too. Most of all, there are days that I don’t enjoy teaching. It’s nothing related to my students, but I sometimes feel burnt out on teaching in general. I have to find ways to relax or else I almost break down.

As a teacher, I don’t treat my students badly if I am having a bad day. It’s not their fault and they definitely do not deserve a mean teacher. I have to hide my emotions from them. In my heart, I wish that I could take a short break from teaching for awhile. I need some time to myself. I have to not think about teaching for three or four hours at a time. After I take a break, I feel so much better. When you have a day like this, try to treat yourself to something nice or take a small break. Try not to be too hard on yourself. Burnout is real for teachers and it can be so hard. It’s difficult because we are almost always around our students. We cannot show them our frustrations.

Often, the weekends are the best time for me to try relaxing from the work week. I feel guilty taking this time away, but I need it. I try not to answer any messages or phone calls during the weekend. I need some space. Once I have this space, I notice that I am a much better teacher when I come back from the weekend.

As a teacher, be nice to yourself. You deserve a break and don’t overwork yourself. A happy teacher is a great teacher. Try to remember that you are only human and you will make mistakes! Making small mistakes doesn’t make you a bad teacher. We are all in the same boat and you are not alone. Take care of yourself and avoid burnout!

MY THOUGHTS ON BEING SELF-EMPLOYED – MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT WORKING FOR MYSELF

For many years when I was in college, I wasn’t making any money. I feel like many college students can understand my sentiment. I wasn’t the best student, but I had trouble finding my first job. I was working in the hospital as a scribe and I didn’t it at all. I was working swing shift and I was also paid at minimum wage. I didn’t complain, but the work environment didn’t allow me to have a lunch break. I was overworked and tired most of the time. I remember this time as one of the best learning lessons when I was in college. I learned that I didn’t want to work for someone else for the rest of my life. I realized that that kind of life wasn’t cut out for me and I needed to make a change for myself. For many years, my dad told me to begin teaching piano. I didn’t pursue teaching until I was almost done with college. It was tough beginning the journey of self-employment. I am going to share with you my thoughts on being self-employed and why I like it much more than working for someone else.

The most important thing that I like about being self-employed is that I am able to control my own hours. I can change my schedule, reschedule my lessons, and take vacation days whenever I want. Of course I have to let my students know ahead of time, but I can choose whenever to take a vacation day or a sick day. My schedule is entirely flexible to when I want to work. I can choose to end work early if I don’t feel well that day or I can schedule to only work four hours a day. This is the best reason why I love working for myself and I am so grateful that I am able to do so.

The next thing I like about being self-employed is that I never have to worry about being fired. I have worked in this industry long enough to where I have plenty of contacts in every platform. I don’t have to worry about losing my job because I am hired for multiple lessons per week. The amount of business I have is infinite and this is another thing that I am extremely grateful for. My job is secure because I have built multiple pipelines to keep it strong. The exception was during Covid where I had a stagnant period, but I was still able to work nonetheless.

My last thing that I enjoy about being self-employed is that I am able to have a normal life. There are so many things that I enjoy about my job, but I can only list a few. The part about having a normal life is very important to me. I recently got married about half a year ago and I wanted to be able to be with my family on the weekends. I am able to have dinner with them, wake up in the mornings with them, and I spend a large amount of time with them on the weekends. My personal life is important to me and I didn’t want my job to sacrifice that. Teaching has enhanced my life and it has made my personal life much more fulfilling. I have time to myself in the mornings and nights. Being self-employed has changed my life for the better. I am so grateful for this life.

Teacher hacks to getting more stuff done | HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF YOUR TIME

As I’ve mentioned before in my other blog posts, I’ve always been striving to make the most out of my time as a teacher. When I’m in lessons, I focus only on teaching. Consequently, I find that I have less time during the day to keep up with everything else. I don’t think I would be able to get quite as much done if it wasn’t for some of the tactics that I use to get more stuff done during the day.

My first trick is to schedule all of my posts ahead of time. For my real estate business, I have a program that was provided by my broker that posts for me every Thursday. I’ve found that this is the best way for me to update my business page without having to manually do it every time. I also sometimes schedule Instagram and Facebook posts for holidays. I make sure that it appears like I am always updating, but I could possibly just be napping during that time. The flexibility of my schedule allows me to decide how my work days are going to be. I enjoy this lifestyle that I have and I also like the ability to be doing other stuff while my social media is being updated. I also schedule my blog posts to post ahead of time. WordPress allows me to schedule my posts. I take full advantage of it. I highly recommend trying out this feature for yourself.

Another thing that I do to get more stuff done is to wake up early about 20 minutes ahead of time to plan my day. My real estate brokerage calls this method: morning meeting with yourself. I know that this method isn’t going to be groundbreaking for some people, but it has been greatly beneficial for me on my most busy days. Life is hectic and a lot of planning is necessary to ensure a smooth work day for myself.

This next life hack for teachers is something that I created myself. A lot of food restaurants now offer curbside pickup. I take full advantage of these when I have my breakfast or lunch. I park in curbside pickup, order on the app, and then I use the time that I am waiting for my food to respond to work messages. The little bit of time that I am utilizing to work whenever I can is crucial for me because I don’t always have a lot of free time during the week. Try downloading some food apps and see if this hack helps you save more time.

The next hack is to schedule zoom or FaceTime lessons with your students as much as possible. These lessons save me a lot of time each week. I don’t have to drive as much as compared to traveling to my students’ homes. I schedule phone calls and FaceTime conferences in between my in-person lessons. Therefore, I can teach more during the day and I can also maximize my schedule to make more from my lessons.

My last life hack is to use google calendar. When I was starting as a new teacher, I used to manually write a calendar for the week. It was helpful for me, but I eventually switched to using a digital calendar instead. I didn’t like my default apple calendar. I found that google calendar offered more options and customizations to where I can see my full work week schedule on my phone. I’ve been using it for years now ever since I switched from a paper calendar. If you want to have additional projects or side gigs, it is absolutely necessary to use a calendar to schedule your week. I am able to practice real estate and teach piano full time because I have a good calendar system. I also recommend customizing your calendar as much as possible so it is optimized for your wants and needs.

I hope this has been helpful for my fellow teacher friends. I really enjoy sharing all of my knowledge on how to become a better teacher and I am definitely going to be writing more blog posts on these topics. Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my blog for more blog posts!

Disadvantages of working for yourself

As I’ve been in the business of working for myself, I’ve noticed that there are still hardships that not many people realize. Don’t get me wrong. There are plenty of advantages, but it’s still difficult to work for yourself. And it’s especially difficult when it involves social media. Most recently, I got a bad review on my google page for my real estate page. The review wasn’t geared towards me being a terrible real estate agent, it was talking only about my “bad driving.” I was supposedly speeding through the streets and I had cut the other car off in traffic. My story was that she was going slower than the speed limit. I was merging into the lane and she sped up to not let me in. I didn’t have any other choice other than to speed up so I don’t crash into the road blockers. She didn’t care though. And I got a bad review saying that I was a terrible driver. None of this is related to my real estate skills. I already tried reporting it, but I think I have to personally call the customer service line in order to have it removed. The person lives in a neighborhood in my city that is known for bullying other people. They bully the services in their neighborhood and each other. There are no boundaries with them. I can’t say that I will join them in their behavior. I have too much work to do and there is no time that I can spend to bully other people on the internet. I only want to defend other teachers or small business owners. We are trying our best, but there are others that are willing to write a bad review for any reason that they can find. I hope that person doesn’t do that to any other business owner. I will be replying to her review with my own story because I don’t deserve to have her opinion be the only one on the internet. I work hard and I will not be bullied by this neighborhood.
